Sunday 6th April 2008

Third Sunday of Easter

Reflection

On the road to Eammaus, the disciples were slow to recognize Jesus or understand why he had to die and rise from the dead. Jesus explained the scriptures to them and they then recognized him in the breaking of bread. Our celebration of the Eucharist reflects their experience. We listen with open hearts to the scriptures, we hear Jesus speak to us, and we recognize and receive him in the bread which is his Body.

Our Advocate with the Father Jesus said: "You are witnesses of all I have said." Over the past few years we have become very aware of the human frailty of the Church, often to the point of keeping our heads down and hoping that it will all go away. And we have good reasons for being ashamed and afraid and even at times resentful. But we also have a great responsibility to witness boldly to Jesus who has risen from the dead and is alive in us and in his Church. We do this, not so much by preaching, as by how we live our lives in joy and hope and love. Our family, our community and our society badly need the witness of people who are happy, content, forgiving, thoughtful, prayerful, caring. If we work at it together we can make a difference. That's our call this week.

ECHO ECHO DANCE THEATRE COMPANY
This Theatre Company will be teaching a weekend workshop in ‘Instantaneous Composition’ on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th May at their studio in The Waterside Theatre. Instantaneous Composition is a way of playing, making choices within an instant and giving permission for the dance to manifest rather than taking control of the invention of a dance. It gets even more remarkable and exciting when dancing in a group - all composing and inventing at the same time. - creating a multitude of potential choice and outcome. This 2day workshop is open to all ages and abilities and cost just £40 or £20 concession. www..echoechodance.com for more information.
