2nd Sunday of Advent

The Good News

It is written in the book of the prophet Isaiah: "A voice cries in the wilderness: Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight." When we hear those words we automatically think of John the Baptist and they are certainly about him. But they are about us also. The task of each one of us is to prepare a way for the Lord so that he can enter into our world today; to make his paths straight so that he can enter into the heart of every human person, where he wants to live. Some of us, like John the Baptist, do this through preaching. The most important way though is through love. Our love needs to be active and growing whether it is in marriage or in family life. This takes commitment and effort every day so that those we love can know how special they are. And this love needs to be brought to the parish community so that everyone can find a home among us.

Diocesan Youth Choir ‘Rejoice’ Christmas Concerts.

‘Deck the Halls’ will be an evening of music, song and festive cheer featuring entertainment from ‘Rejoice’ (Derry Diocesian Youth Choir) and also the children from Glendermott Primary School. The concert will have a wide variety of music including a selection of pieces suited to Advent and Christmas. The concert will be held today Sunday 7th Decmber at 6pm in Ardmore Pastoral Centre Admission £3 adult. Light Refreshments served and there will be a festive raffle. Everyone welcome.

The December Paris Draw will take place a week earlier this month due to Christmas. Parish Draw will take place on Sunday 21st?December. Promoters are asked to collect their cards after Mass today or tomorrow.

Carol Service

Sunday 21st December, 6pm Carol service will take place in St Mary’s Church, Ardmore on Sunday 21st?December at 6pm. Light refreshments and Parish raffle will take place afterwards in the Parish Hall.

Cake Sale will take place after Mass in the Pastoral Centre on Sunday 21st December. Anyone who wishes to donate cakes, pastries, buns, scones, jams etc for the cake sale can do so. All are welcome.

Sharing Fair Christmas Sale Dec 6th & 7th

The Good Shepherd Sisters of Dungiven Road, Derry are holding a Christmas Sale at St Mary’s Pastoral Centre following Masses on?Saturday evening and Sunday morning. They will be selling a range of top quality household items, toys and Christmas gifts. These crafts are made by girls and women in self help projects in Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia. We hope to count on your support and generosity.

Advent Weekend Retreat.

Registration Friday 12th December, 7.30pm to Sunday 14th December. A quiet residential weekend, which will be a spiritual preparation for the feast of Christmas, will be conducted by the Carmelite Fathers in Termonbacca Carmelite Retreat Centre, Derry. This annual event will take place in the Glendermott Primary School on Wednesday 10th December at 8pm. Forms are available from the school or from St Mary’s Church. Return forms to the school or the Sacristry.

Pro-Life Candle-Light Rosary Procession will take place on Sunday 7th December, assembling at Guildhall at 4.30pm. You are invited to carry a ‘Light for Life’ and pray for the protection of Ireland’s unborn children from abortion. Candles will be supplied. The New Parish Draw began on 30th November 2008. The Prizes will be bigger than last year’s to attract those who did not join last year’s Draw to hopefully rejoin this worthwhile parish fund raising venture in aid of funding parish projects.
