The Triumph of the Cross

Jesus said: “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost but may have eternal life.” People today struggle with the idea of whether there is a God at all. Our faith teaches us, not only that there is a God, but that God is passionately in love with each one of us. God wants everything that is good and best for each of us. That is why he sent his Son, Jesus Christ, not just as a teacher but as one who literally put his life on the line to show us the way to the fullness of life. The Triumph of the Cross is not the triumph of power but of love. Our love relationships will bring us through suffering too but they will lead us to life. So many people are lost in themselves. The only way to life for them and for all of us is the way of love. As Christians we have the responsibility of living that way in our families and in our faith community. That is the challenge week by week.

Thanks to all at Ardmore Parish from the Good Shepherd Sisters in Ethiopia.

Sincere thanks to the parishioners in Ardmore, who contributed so generously to our mission in Ethiopia. Lack of rain in the agricultural areas of Ethiopia from January until June, has caused drought and famine conditions. Now we are in the rainy season, which is helpful, but it will take many months until the new crops are planted and harvested. The cost of food has risen dramatically, and even families who have one person working are unable to afford little more than some basic food.

Sister Teresita and Carmelita have witnessed the deaths of children and the elderly (both very vulnerable) in our mission in Mazoria, Shone and the surrounding area of the south. In addition to the many people they have helped with your generous donation, they reached out in particular to the Potter Tribe, (so named because they make pottery). Unfortunately, the Potters are regarded as inferior to other tribes in the region, and they tend to be neglected by local government as well. They were grateful to the Sisters for the food they received from them.

On behalf of all our Sisters in Ethiopia, we thank you most sincerely for enabling us to assist. May the Good Shepherd bless you and all your families in all your need...Sr Mary James Clines.

THE TRIUMPH OF THE CROSS.

Lord Jesus, I think of the pains you have endured for me. The great sadness of the garden, your scourging and crowning, your cross, your death. You had to suffer to enter into your glory. The sufferings of this time are not to be compared to the glory that is to come. In the strength of your Spirit I join my sufferings to yours for the redemption of the world’.
