Ascension of the Lord ~ World Communications Day

First Reading : Acts of the Apostles 1: 1-11
It is what you have heard me speak about: John baptised with water but you, not many days from now, will be baptised with the Holy Spirit.

Second Reading:
Ephesians 1: 17-23

May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, give you a spirit of wisdom and perception of what is revealed, to bring you to full knowledge of him.

Gospel: Luke 24: 46-53
Go, therefore, make disciples of all the nations: baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Ascension of the Lord

Sunday, 16th May 2010

Now as he (Jesus) blessed them, he withdrew from them and was carried up to heaven. They worshipped him and then went back to Jerusalem full of joy.’ The feast of the Ascension of the Lord is above all else a feast of hope. Hope has been described as, not just some vague kind of feeling, but rather having someone or something worth living for and dying for. In Christ we have such a person. He lives in us in our marriage and family relationships and it is worth putting every effort into making those the best possible for his sake. He lives among us in our community and again we need to do everything in our power to make our parish the best we possibly can to his glory and for the good of all. And Christ lives for us in heaven at the right hand of the Father, assuring us of our ultimate destiny among the saints. We can aim to be there!

NOVENA TO
MARY HELP OF CHRISTIANS
15th-23rd May

Prayer to Our Lady Help of Christians

Mary, Help of Christians, you listen with a Mother’s love
to all who look for your guidance.
I ask you to keep all those I love in your tender care.
Give me strength to face up to life’s difficulties
and protect me from all spiritual and bodily harm.
Grant me an abundance of love, so that I too, may be
a help to others, sharing with them in their times of need,
and caring for them in their moments of distress.
Amen
