Sunday 18th May 2008 - Trinity Sunday

Our God of Love

“God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son”. Isn’t it amazing how easily we settle for less than is possible? We settle for the fact that there is a God in terms of faith. Jesus tells us that God is not just in existence but is alive and in love and passionate about us – that God is Three in One. Our faith is a call into a deep personal love of God so that we can come to know the wonder and the fullness of life. However, we also settle for life as being just all right. Jesus tells us that we are wonderful; we are the beloved of God. We are called into a deep personal love for one another in marriage, in family life and in our faith community so that we can engage with the adventure of life that leads us into eternal life. The challenge of this week is to open ourselves to the wonder and excitement of life and love.

THE LOVING GOD

I believe in the God of life who loves me at each moment without any conditions whatsoever, and who wants to see me alive and well. I believe in the God, who alwasy forgives me and opens to me a future full of life and hope. I believe in the God who is with me every second of my life to help me, heal me, console me, strengthen me, suffer with me and be my best friend. I believe in the God who knows only love and compassion: who is a ‘lover of life’ and who begs me to ‘choose life.’ In this faith I find joy and peace in the present life and hope for the life to come.’ Some of us believe that God is All-Power and can do all, and that God is All-Wisdom and knows how to do all. But that God is All-love and wants to do all, here we restrain ourselves. And this ignorance hinders most of God’s lovers as I see it. (St Julian of Norwich)

Daily Prayer:
Glory be the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
