Divine
Mercy Sunday
When Jesus appeared to his fearful disciples on Easter
Sunday night, He gives them the gift of his peace.
He greets them with ‘Peace be with you’-
the fullness of all blessings, which is the mercy
that flowed out from His wounds. Again He says ‘Peace
be with you,’ commissioning them as apostles
of mercy as he breathes the Holy Spirit upon each
of them and tells them how to be ministers of mercy:
forgive.
Then on the following Sunday (The Feast of Divine
Mercy), he teaches Thomas and so all of us how to
TRUST. As Jesus tells Thomas to put his hand into
His pierced side, Thomas cries out with great acclamation
of living faith and TRUST. ‘My Lord and My God’.
(Jn20v28).
By our trust in Jesus, we become a living presence
of mercy, a living presence of peace.
