5th Sunday of Lent

Jesus said to the crowd: “If there is one of you who has not sinned, let him/her be the first to throw a stone at her”. We live in a world that takes delight in other people’s sins, a world that is always baying for punishment and revenge. In a very real way we can understand this and accept it. And yet it has no place in our following of Christ. The Gospel story of the woman who was caught in the act of adultery, and whom the Law said should be stoned to death, is a wonderful revelation of the way Christ sees the person who has sinned. He does not condone her actions but with great gentleness he sets her free with the command to go and not to sin again. This is the gentleness we are called to develop towards one another while always remembering that our own sins should hold us back from throwing the first stone.

Parish Financial Statement

We are indebted to our Parishioners for their financial support toward the parish over the years. The Weekly Collection, Parish Draw and Building Fund Collection and other fund raising ventures has been of great assistance towards reducing our debt and at the same time enabling us to carry out essential work in 2009 such as the new floor in the Church transept, new upholstery for the Church kneelers, veneering of pews, Stations of the Cross, balcony and balcony stairs, cleaning of Church gutters and drains and the purchase of two candelabras. Unfortunately we have had considerable delay in the completion of the church steps, but with improvement in the weather conditions they will soon be completed to enhance the appearance of the Church entrance and provide safer access to the Church.

Other works still to be carried out both inside and outside the church, such as exterior church lighting at the front, improving the safety of the church belfry, enhancing the car park environs and creation of disabled parking bays near the front of the church with perhaps a Church parking pass. Other works associated with the church will need attending in the near future. Your financial assistance is important and we are grateful for your continued support and generosity.

If you are new to the Parish and need Parish offertory envelopes or want to join the Parish Draw, please contact the Parish Office on 71349490 or e-mail ardmoreparish@btconnect.com
